Last Call: The Rise and Fall of Prohibition by Daniel Okrent

This is not a full review of this book, but a test for creating a basic format for book review posts. Last Call follows the history of the Prohibition movement and how the thirteen years of confrontation between wets and drys shaped U.S. society and politics to this day.

In 1933, as both [Prohibition] and the ASL faced a desperate emergency, it brought in a total of $122,000 to fund its activities, a brutal 95 percent decline. The most powerful pressure group the nation had ever known had been reduced to looking for nickels under the couch cushions.

The rise and fall of the Prohibition movement is an amazing tale. You can read the whole thing by picking up the book here.
